My Friend, Dylan

Hi everyone.

Today is one of my best friend’s birthdays…

content warning: death of a loved one

Unfortunately he isn’t alive to celebrate it. I met Dylan in junior high in the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program, and we connected through our mutual weirdness. At the time I was pretty shy, and he was pretty outgoing.

We don’t have a lot of pictures together. I’ve never been big on taking pictures and it’s rarely been my style to pull out a camera/phone/etc and break my participation in the moment by documenting it. I do wish I had some more pictures of us. I have many memories in my mind.

Dylan loved with his whole heart, I’m sure he loved me even a bit more than I love him and I love Dylan a lot.

One of my favourite memories of Dylan is when we were camping, waiting for my dad to finish climbing. He was super antsy, looked around, pointed at this big ass hill and said, “I’m gonna go run up that hill,” and off he went. It took him about 45 minutes to run up the hill, and maybe 90 seconds to fly down it. He was airborne for 15 feet at a time he said! Dylan’s physicality was incredible. He was also the only one who had a chance of catching his family’s ever-escaping dog Rudy.

Dylan, I hope you’re somewhere chasing Rudy around laughing hysterically as you tell him what an asshole he is. I love you very much, and I miss you. Happy 29th Birthday ❤
